It could be used, but is not compatible.

I tried to use a Sun cable about 2.5 years ago.
I could get OF prompt and kernel messages,
but it hanged at /bin/sh prompt. After replacing
with the Mac one, everything worked fine.

Maybe SD/RD/GND use the same pin layout but
CD/DR etc. are not. setting CLOCAL might help?
(though there are many changes on macppc/dev/zs.c)
