hmm trying to make a new kernel on 1.4.2 and i notice that not even 
GENERIC gets thru it's config:

  root@suds:/usr/src/sys/arch/macppc/conf# config GENERIC
../../../../conf/files:521: syntax error
*** Stop.

the lines at that point are:
# legitimate pseudo-devices
defpseudo vnd: disk

i tried commenting out every pseudo-device line except rnd, pty, loop 
and ipfilter

it just died at each line that wasnt commented out.
