Given that NFS installation works anywhere it should work on the 3400
as long as the network connection works. Unfortunately it sounds
like there's a problem there.

I can't help much. My suggestions are generic: try to look at the
configure message that is printed for the interface while the boot
floppy is booting. After you configure the interface do an ifconfig
-a to see if everything was really set properly. A ping packet could
be small enough that it might not make the lights blink noticeably
but that would depend on how the lights are connected, so I wouldn't
guarantee there is a problem unless you do a tdpdump on the machine
you are pinging.

Anyone on the list have any better debugging suggestions?
