Another data point...

I've just booted a GENERIC kernel on my iMac via netboot.  The same kernel
fails to boot from disk on my 7600.  However, I can get it just a wee bit
further by doing a `strip -x' on the kernel, which at least gets it
through that first line of size counting (and twiddling) before it freaks
out.
