I am continuing to have problems installing NetBSD macppc on my 400MHz G4.
I think my problem is very similar to that described in
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-macppc/2000/04/25/0004.html
i.e. no I/O devices are being discovered by the kernel on the way up.

kernel printf's are as follows:

Copyright .... etc
...
NetBSD 1.4R (GENERIC) #0: Tue Feb 8 19:27:12 JST 2000
    tsubai@moeko.iri.co.jp:/a/0205/src/sys/arch/macppc/compile/GENERIC
CPU: 7400 (Revision 209)
total memory = 65536 KB
avail memory = 54964 KB
using 844 buffers containing 3376 KB of memory
mainbus0 (root)
cpu0 at mainbus0: 1MB backside cache
boot device: <unknown>
root device:

this final prompt will suggest "use one of: halt" when some input is typed.

clearly a lot of printf's one would expect to see, e.g. detailing the I/O
configuration etc.
are absent. I get essentially the same behavior attempting to boot
the following 5 kernels:

from
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/arch/macppc/snapshot/20000205/binary/kernel/
	- netbsd.md.gz
	- netbsd.gz

and from ftp://nandra.iri.co.jp/pub/NetBSD/macppc/
	- netbsd-1.4.2-INSTALL.gz
	- netbsd.md.gz
	- netbsd.gz

FWIW, after reading about (possible) driver problems with the on-board
ethernet controller
I also installed a 21140 "tulip" based NIC.

I figure either 1) I am using the wrong kernel or 2) my G4 is
different/broken/wierd. ???

any ideas on where to go next with this would be most appreciated.
I would hope not to have set up a cross dev env and build & debug the kernel
myself...!

regards,
	-cliff-
