This appears already to have been taken care of.  I cut & paste
from CHANGES-1.4.2:

sys/arch/macppc/macppc/machdep.c                patch

  Apply last part of fix for "panic: startup: cannot allocate VM
  for buffers" when RAM is > approx. 128MB.

which came from our portmaster.
