Subject: 1.4 INSTALL floppy still causes SCSI_CHECK && MESH_SENSE? panic on G3

I've re-read all the mailing list archives and had assumed this had been
quashed by now, but apparently not.

I have a plain ol' boring beige G3 266 DT with the ATAPI CD-ROM and IDE disk
and SCSI Zip drive. I also have an external 1 Gb disk on the external SCSI.
The machine has 160 Mb of RAM. (It also once booted from the floppy
successfully with this much RAM, back before there was MESH support.)

Trying to boot from the official 1.4 installation floppy yields

NetBSD 1.4 (INSTALL) #0: Tue May 11 00:32:25 JST 1999

rebooting

What gives?

Do I need to stick a Zip cartridge in the Zip drive or something to boot?

Or disconnect the external SCSI disk? (That's not good, since that's the
one I was hoping to install NetBSD on :-P )
