Hi folks...

I've written the code to fix this problem (at least, to nuke the kludge
required in ubkd.c).  The first version of my code worked fine, but I
needed to change a couple of things, and as soon as Bill Studenmund
tests it, and confirms that it works okay, I'll commit it, and try
to sneak it into the 1.4 release.
