That didn't work for me either.Try typing

        boot enet:0

at the OF prompt.
You can even specify the file to boot:

        boot enet:0,netbsd

Or, you can just hold down the 'N' key when turning on the machine (if you've set
auto-boot? to true).

There's no need to set these variables, AFAIK.
