I'm having similar(?) problems with the 3.1 release laptop kernel on the x86 port.

About 10-20% of the time it gets stuck in init and never finishes. A few times I got the debug prompt you showed. I haven't looked at a trace yet (didn't know how) so I can't compare. But there seems to be a problem in init somewhere and may not be a mac68k issue.

Not very helpful perhaps but another data point.

Cheers,

Rand
