Hi,
My plan -- to run 3.1 ColorX server on Quadra700 in 16 bit mode
with NuBus video card -- is crashed.
(This is my silly story, sorry for the useless.)
1) 3.1 full sets (including X) is installed from scratch.
2) twm starts up in 8 bbp mode with some 'not faital errors';
>error opening security policy file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xserver/
SecurityPolicy
>twm: invalid color name "black"
(snip)
>Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display ":0.0".
3) I ignored them, started to make install windowmaker and links-gui.
Xlib: extension "RENDER" is installed at this time, maybe.
4) After 30 hours, Quadra700 has successfully finished his works.
5) Put E-Machines Futura II LX (NuBus video card) in Quadra700.
6) boot up: Quadra700 + Futura II LX + EIZO FlexScan E65T got;
>panic: cnopen: no console device
??
7) I changed monitor to Apple Apple 12" RGB Display.
boot up OK, startx:
>Couldn't open RGB_DB '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb'
>This is not a fatal error.
>Couldn't set video mode to desired depth.

Futura II LX (it was in IIci) does't work in 16 bit mode ??
8) Very disappointed. I gave up to use Q700, and moved HDD to Q650.
WindowMaker started up, but soon restarted with spitting _more_
errors.
(snip same as above except "X connection to :0.0 broken")
>wmaker warning: could not parse color "black"
(snip many lines)
>wmaker warning: using default "black" instead
>wmaker warning: could not parse color "black"
>wmaker warning: could not get color for key "IconTitleBack"
>wmaker warning: Window Maker exited due to a crash (signal 11)
and will be restarted.
(repeats endlessly)
9) With scorning my stubbornness, I installed 1.6.2 X sets.
ColorX doesn't start up with;
>/usr/pkg/lib/libXrender.so.1: Undefined symbol
"_Xglobal_lock" (symnum = 46)
(Xrender-0.9.0nb1 is installed at step3.)
10) Install 3.1 X sets again
ColorX server (+WindowMaker) runs now on Quadra650.
The problems in twm and wm are something related "color",
if I could make a patch, I don't need 1.6 X ... No, I can't. :p

Many thanks to Marco and Hauke for advices,
... about links-gui-2, ... no comment now. :)
