determined to continue... SInce the disk was already partitioned when it
"crashed" I did the following. I used the shell option from the too, did a
swapon, returned to installation and followed the typical steps.

So I was able to FTP download and unpack most of the distribution and
untarring it. But at some point (at the beginnign  of misc.tgz) I got
"Segmentation fault - core dumped".

Hmm....
