No, it's optional.

Yes, it does sound similar.  I'm not sure what to say.  It might be a
mac68k-specific problem, but I would have expected to hear someone else
complain about it before now if it were.  I'm not currently running a
mac68k 1.6 system.

Is anyone else seeing anything like this?  Or is anyone else trying to
use 1.6?
