The acceleration shouldn't matter. I think the acceleration was just 
using on-card hardware to render some primitives. The frame buffer 
should still be somewhere in memory.

What I find bizzare is that the size is not reported correctly. 
Shouldn't the screen size for a "dumb" card like the 8*24GC come from 
the booter via MacOS?

I think a bigger problem with the 8*24GC is that, at least in some 
modes, the card runs with interleaved bitplanes instead of chunky 
pixels. I don't believe the console or mac68k X code is setup to deal 
with interleaved bitplanes.
