Bundled software. At that time, Apple created the Performa line to be 
sold in places like Sears and other retails. What they did was made 
slightly different s/w configs & changed the third digit in the name. 
In their marketing, this made it so that Sears wasn't directly 
competing with the other non-computer stores, since each store got a 
different config. The actual computer stores, of course got the 
"real" versions (LC, Centris, Quadra) without the software bundles.
