OK.  Did you compile any packages before installing the ELF kernel &
userland, or was this a fresh installation?

Do you have OBJECT_FMT=ELF in /etc/mk.conf ?  If not, try putting that
there, removing the packages that have been installed, and rebuild perl.
And let us know.  Since m68k/mac68k hasn't officially switched to ELF, 
the default OBJECT_FMT that you're getting is probably a.out.
