Hi Guys,
After a year or two hiatus from running NetBSD on my trusty Q840AV,
I'm looking to run it as a DSL router (using PPPoE from Earthlink). I
blew away a couple partitions from my 2GB drive, & converted them to
R&U and Swap & installed the latest snapshot (actually last week's).
I *DID* build devices from the installer (1.1h). When booting
multi-user, I get the same thing that Tom Jernigan had on his
660...rcorder says that it can't run /etc/rc.d/* because it doesn't
exist, & then gives init: getty repeating too quickly on port
/dev/ttyE0, sleeping
ad nauseum until I reboot. If I boot SU, then here's the type of info I get:

#
# ls
#
# dir
/
# cd /etc
# ls
#
# pwd
/etc
#

I can cd into /dev, and (after mount -a) ./MAKEDEV all. That'll spit
out a bunch of errors, & after that doing "ls" within /dev will show
device files, but everywhere else is still reported as blank. Tonight
I'm going to install 1.5.1 instead of -current, but I've always liked
to run -current.

Any advice? known problem? It seems to only affect the AV series, as
I've seen it mentioned by a few people...of course the response is
usually to build devices. I've been using NetBSD on the Quadra for
years, & can assure you that I built them in the installer, as well
as my attempt in SU mode. Actually, after I first had the problem, I
blew away the part again & reinstalled, and DIDN'T build devices in
the installer, hoping that the ./MAKEDEV would do a "better" job, and
the error was different...can't start console...no device.

Thanks for your time,
Mike
