What shell are you using?  Do a 'echo $SHELL' to find out.

If it's ksh, try 'export TERM=vt220'
If it's csh, try 'setenv TERM vt220'

My guess is that it's ksh, since the 'setenv TERM vt220' didn't work for
you.
