Salutations!

The NetBSD System Manager's Manual is excellent. I used it as a guide in
preparing a Mac 68k NetBSD system. Everything worked great until I got to
the end of "Installing the NetBSD System." I made it to the step where I
select Booting from the Options menu, then "Boot Now." I get a sequence of
"+" separated numbers, some sort of quote about "then I sez...", and the
screen goes white. At that point the disk stops all activity and there is no
response from the keyboard or display on the monitor. The only response I
can get from the computer is by pushing the interrupt switch on the front of
the Mac, whereupon there is a short string of characters followed by a ">"
and nothing else. I have repeated the whole process (including the install)
with the same result.

Background:

I have a Quadra 650 with 525MB internal hard drive. I partitioned the drive
in order to boot the Macintosh OS initially, then boot NetBSD on the same
drive:
#0: Partition map (31.5K)
#1: Apple_Driver (16K)
#2: Apple HFS (101426K)
#3: Apple_UNIX_SVR2 (Root & Usr) (341043K)
#4: Apple_Unix (Swap) (86346K)
#5: Scratch(16K)

The Quadra has 40 MB of RAM and a 13 inch color display

The full NetBSD install is on Root & Usr. I followed the install
instructions scrupulously and there were no anomalies.

I booted system 7.5.5 in the Mac OS partition with all extensions off. Then
attempted to boot into NetBSD installed on sd0a, with the result described
above.

I have reviewed all of the FAQs regarding install and complied with all of
the suggestions to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Regards,
Dale
