That is a very big question you are asking. Sendmail is, arguably,
regarded as one of the holy grails of the sysadmin biz. www.sendmail.org
has a very nice treatment of what it takes to get started. One general
thing that can be said for beginning with sendmail is to use the m4
configuration macro set, look at any sample config files you can find at
your site and on the net, and to have a lot of patience. This user's

has a nice little quick start that should get a basic sendmail install
going. You should very much consider purchasing o'reilly's(www.ora.com)
sendmail guide. For about US$40 it is invaluable as you begin to do more
with sendmail.
