I had a same problem on my LC475 with "Apple Ethernet LC" ethernet
card. It has DP83932BVF chip and a AAUI port.
If your card type is same as mine, It will work on current kernel.

I'm using 1.4.1 kernel with patch. 
If you want I can send you a patch for 1.4.x.
