uname -a
If it says (GENERIC) instead of (GENERICSBC) then you probably need to
extract kern_sbc.tgz into your root partition. If that improves things,
reinstall from scratch immediately and use kern_sbc.tgz instead of kern.tgz.
I have three IIci's, and the disks that came with them all needed that.
Those were 200-500 meg disks.
I have not had this problem with 2-3 Gb disks (one of my IIci's is a build
machine and the others are fated to be serial port servers).
