I'll just mention that the wm of choice for my SE/30 (in all its
512x384 bitmap glory) here is 9wm.

9wm has got:

 - one button interface; great for one button Macintosh mice. (After
munging the source so that it uses the 1st button instead of the 3rd,
I rarely ever need to Option-2/3.)

 - The One True Method for resizing windows-- you click on the window,
then mark out a rectangle on the display. No more trying to grab the
edges of a window (at least twice) to get it the shape you want.

 - only one config option ("-term"). I hate wasting time in window
manager configs on every machine I use. I get .xsession to spawn an
emacs, and 9wm gives me an rvxt whenever I need one.

    - doesn't waste any screen space with titlebars, icons, etc.
(Did I mention the 512x384 screen?)

True, the SE/30 is mostly used to run the "deluxe" xscreensaver, but
it also impresses the hell out of some people when it looks like
you're not using a window manager at all. :)
