This I understand - it was only supposed to work with Apple-fingerprinted
drives, although the 'hacked' version will work on some others.

Wait a minute - I thought that Drive Setup, in addition to unofficially
supporting third-party drives, was capable of creating partitions of other
types, including at least A/UX and I think one other UNIX-compatible
filesystem type? I seem to remember these options from when I prepared
disks for NetBSD on my Quadra 800.

OK, I just checked the Apple WWWebsite, and the following URL shows the
most recent Drive Setup capabilities:
http://til.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/n60517

BTW, the LowEndMac WWWebsite is/was maintaining a compatibility list for
Drive Setup. Perhaps they could be encouraged to update it some. It's
at:
http://lowendmac.net/drivesetup.shtml

I'm also thinking of getting an 18GB or 9GB drive, and although I may not
end up using it under NetBSD for very long, I'd like to think that Drive
Setup would be able to handle it, so that I don't end up using a different
driver for each of my three internal SCSI hard drives. Does anybody have
an IBM Ultrastar drive in their NetBSD setup - or even under MacOS? Did
Drive Setup recognize it?
