Can anyone tell me what the following messages mean?
I have an Atlas III 18 Gb drive that's complaining.
These messages correspond much too well with certain drive operations.
(i.e. I can cause them to happen at will)
I have the drive connected to a Q800 on the internal bus with a
wide -> narrow adapter. The drive works almost OK, but I'm having trouble
with it dropping bits. When I stress it, it seems to corrupt data,
and then eventually the kernel panics.
For instance, I can do a newfs on this drive (one very large partition)
and then do a fsck on it. The fsck will find a problem at the end of its run.
When I tell it to go ahead and fix it, I'll get one of these messages,
and if I run the fsck again, I'll get the same error. It's like
the fsck tried to update the disk, and the message corresponds to
the operation failing.
??
Thanks,
-dgl-
P.S. If anyone is interested, the messages file is available
on ftp://ftp.icompute.com/pub/charm.messages
via anonymous ftp.
