I'm having trouble configuring Netatalk, specifically afp over TCP. If I
try to add any options to the apfd.conf file besides the name of the
server I can't connect from my mac and I get the following message in
the console.

afpd[181]: dsi_tcp_open: sigaction: Invalid argument

This is what I get at startup when it works:

Nov 28 03:53:30 216-59-98-82 atalkd[162]: config for no router
Nov 28 03:53:32 216-59-98-82 atalkd[162]: ready 0/0/0
Nov 28 03:53:54 216-59-98-82 afpd[177]: mojo:AFPServer@* started on
65280.17:130 (1.4b2+asun2.1.3)
Nov 28 03:53:54 216-59-98-82 afpd[177]: dsi_tcp (Chooser will not select
afp/tcp) Check to make sure 216-59-98-82 is in /etc/hosts and the
correct domain is in /etc/resolv.conf: Undefined error: 0
Nov 28 03:53:54 216-59-98-82 afpd[177]: ASIP started on 0.0.0.0:548(2)
(1.4b2+asun2.1.3)

What I want to enable is two-way encryption for the login password. Is
this something that would be broken on my Q700 running 1.4c. Do I need
to upgrade?

cheers,
