Once you have the operating system installed (using installer to install
.tgz files), you can use the installer and minishell (I think thats whats
its called, its been so long) to just copy package .tgz files to the
netbsd partition.  I assume the .tgz files you're talking about in this
case are from the package system as you mention pico.  Then under netbsd,
you need to do, for example:


pkg_add pico-3.5.tgz

to install correctly.  For more help on the package system, see
http://www.netbsd.org and follow the link for software.
