Looks like this is not the case.  I took a 320m SCSI hard disk out of a 
Duo280c (which can boot NetBSD 1.4 just fine up to the SH prompt, but 
since ADB does not work on that model that's as far as you can go with 
out a dumb-term) and replaced the drive I had in the 540c.  Exact same 
problem, so it's not the drive since we know it workes in another 
computer. (BTW I did try with the 1.4 Generic kernel, your SCSITest 
kernel and a recent snap.)

Any other ideas?
