Between two PowerMacs, you just need a standard printer/modem cable (8
pin to 8 pin, none of the cheesy "appletalk" dongles with phone wire, and 
not a straight through cable, though those are pretty rare).  The normal
cables are cross-wired already.

As for how to use it, just run pppd on both ends of the connection.  Word
of advice: try setting the MTU on the pppd link to 1024 on the MkLinux
side.  That should cut down the number of garbled packets caused by
MkLinux's somewhat broken serial driver....
