port-mac68k: can't boot multi-user, was adding a disk (fwd)

I added some more disk space from my internal 
drive about a week ago, but now I can't boot multi-user.

When I try to boot in multi-user mode,  the machine hangs right after it
displays the message:

"starting system file checks"

Or something like that.  Does any body know where to begin trouble
shooting this one?
