The identd daemon shipped with NetBSD is in fact pidentd (possibly with
some local modifications) last when I checked.

Your problem with the a***-retantive EFNet servers is that it's
returning the OS type "OTHER", not "UNIX" which they don't like for
whatever reason which seems to me to make no sense.

Anyway, you can change this behavior by editting /etc/inetd.conf, namely
by removing the "-o" option in the identd line of the file.
