Ohboy, now I find my knowledge is obsolete.  Not surprising, since
I was working with *roff in 1984-1986. :-)  Thanks for the reference;
it looks as if mdoc could map pretty easily to SGML at first glance.

Looks like I have a winter project... something to start on in
earnest after the holidays, most likely.
