This seems to be a common problem.  On my IIci, I get similar crashes
with a custom kernel, but no crashes with the SLOTMAN_xxx (GENERIC
based) kernels!  All the crashes seem to occur during things that do
heavy disk I/O.

My guess is that something is trashing something else's memory, but I
have not been able to pin it down any further.

One thing I would try is to use the SLOTMAN_HWD_NCR kernel.  There's no
reason I know of why HWD wouldn't work on your IIci.  And I', probably
going to discontinue building the *_MRG_* kernels in the future.
