I remember a friend of mine being bitten by a X*Polygon call where he gave
the vertices in the 'wrong order' (ie clockwise instead of anti-clockwise
or vice versa) and the (sun) Xserver would try to fill the 'outside' of the
polygon and you would see the server suddenly crash.

I know you are talking about a client (xpdf) but this might be relevant
if not amusing.
