Hmmmm...actually I think the problem really is in the ASC driver.  Some
code was added to handle ASC interrupts recently, and it appears to have
caused problems on some machines (I don't know how, but it does).

To verify this, you can drop into the debugger and type 'trace' (or just
't') and see the stack trace.  Chances are you're hung in the level 2
interrupt handler....

I'm not quite sure how to fix this, although if you could compile a kernel
it'd be easy enough to compile one without the ASC driver (of course, if
you've hosed your system the way I think you have, it's far too late for
that).
