actually, i think the problem may in fact be with the sound chip.  there
appears to be an interrupt problem on some machines.

hmmm....have you run fsck lately?  try running it manually just to make
sure there is no corruption.  i occasionally see something like the above
on my machine that suffers from random disk corruption.

no, 1.3.2 is the latest and greatest, and it should work better than
earlier versions.

if you don't have filesystem corruption, tho, i'm not too sure what could
be causing the problem...
