I think your experience is unusual, even under MacOS.  My experience about
8 years ago at a defence contractor was that a few minutes/month was
typical.

My understanding (from someone on this list a couple of years ago) is that
under MacOS the OS resets the clock from the RTC chip after any operation
(like floppy access) which might block interrupts for any time.  The
problem is that the RTC can only be read with around 1-second
accuracy---not good for much.

Signature failed Preliminary Design Review.
Feasibility of a new signature is currently being evaluated.
