Hi,

I've managed to port the MI wdc driver to mac68k. I can say no more
than "it compiles without errors", as there has been absolutely no
testing done on this new experimental driver yet (I don't have a Mac
with IDE drive).

If you, owners of IDE 68k Macs, are feeling brave enough to risk your
data on your IDE drive, please try one of the kernels at:

ftp://ftp.macbsd.com/private/kenn/IDE/

netbsd.IDETEST.0.tar.gz is compiled with ncrscsi driver and
netbsd.IDETESTSBC.0.tar.gz with sbc driver. Both are tar.gz file so
you can use Installer to install them. I believe HWDIRECT adb driver
works pretty well for the 630s, but if any of you need MRG adb driver,
please let me know. I'll compile one and upload shortly.

A prerequisit for you to be able to participate in this testing is
that you have a working NetBSD set-up. Especially, the second step
described below cannot be performed without it.

The first thing you should keep an eye on is the boot message. I'd
like you to check if your IDE drive is correctly recognized and
configured during autoconfiguration phase. The drive will be wd0 in
most cases (if not all).

Next thing, provided the first step works, is the output of "disklabel
wd0". If it displays the correct partitions just like when you do
"disklabel sdX", that'd be a good news.

I would love to hear from you on these, or just the first one if you
don't have NetBSD working on your Mac yet. If you don't have a
working NetBSD set-up on your IDE Mac, you can follow the instruction
in the NetBSD/mac68k Section 3.1 and check the boot message displayed
before the kernel panics because of the lack of root filesystem.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Remember, this driver has NEVER BEEN TESTED, and I
claim ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEEE that it works. So, as usual, YOU ARE
ON YOUR OWN. I CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE
INCURRED BY USE OR MISUSE OF THIS EXPERIMENTAL DEVICE DRIVER OR THE
KERNELS WITH THE DEVICE DRIVER BUILT IN.

(Usually, I don't shout as much, but this time it's different; I
can't test it myself. So please bear with me)

Cheers,

Ken
