Yes!

There were some low-level changes to make the Mac 1.44MB format more like
the PC format which is why a Mac "SuperFloppy" drive can read PC-format
disks.  It's also why the Mac 1.44MB format has the same capacity as the PC
1.44MB format.

Signature failed Preliminary Design Review.
Feasibility of a new signature is currently being evaluated.
