They can boot linux-ppc/linux-pmac/linux-nom-du-jour fine off of a floppy
drive (although I'm told you may have to try two or three floppies before
you get one that works...), and I'm pretty sure that I remember reading
ppl saying that they were able to boot off of SCSI drives, but I could be
mistaken.

The internal IDE on those machines is a pain under MkLinux, too, though,
but part of that could just be some implementation quirk with the
particular model of drives they use.  Not sure on that one.
