Yes, it could work.  I'd rather borrow an LC040 machine with minimal
configuration (like 8M RAM and a couple of hundred megs disk space,
preferably with a 10BaseT port) if possible, though.

That way, I could work on FPE on my Q840av, transfer the resulting
kernel to the target LC040 box, and test the kernel.  It's much
simpler.
