The problem with copying the tarballs all over to the NetBSD side is that
it would greatly increase the overhead necessary for installation, whereas
reading the files directly from the hfs partition wouldn't increase it at
all (i.e. "hcopy base.tgz - | tar -x --ungzip" or something).
