I have a IIvx with GENERIC#56 (has the scsi phase change error)

the console error messages have been getting extremely annoying,
especially when xconsole eats up 11MB of RAM/swap...(i kill -9'ed it)

I go the xconsole this large simply by extracting sys.tar.gz. i have
currently suspended the task becaus emy machie is far too slow while it is
running.

does the kernel compiling option to get rid of SCSI error messages include
these? is it a good idea to compile a kernel with this option enabled
(essentially no junk in syslog or on console)?

will my machine still have slow disk access (and generally slow machine
speed) as it does now with the scrolling console? or will I be alleviated
of these problems?

I'm trying to debate whether or not to continue tar -zxvf'ing this file,
as it seems to be causing potentially dangerous side-effects (is this
really harmless?).

thanks,
