Oh yes, that's the plan :-)  Once I figure out exactly how the hardware
works, it should be trivial to pop the MI audio device on top of it.  It's
the complete and utter lack of documentation on the Mac sound hardware
that's the problem (unless you count "It has 2 1kB buffers..." ;-)
