Simply find an old null modem cable. people have them lying around in
boxes, unused, forgotten. Or, if you really can't find one, I'm sure your
local apple-friendly computer store will have one for something less than
$10. It's pretty basic. both ends look like what you'd plug into the
modem/printer port, although I think it may be different in some way, so
make sure it's a bonafied "null modem cable".

Hook the ends into a serial port of both computers. I'd use the printer
ports, but it doesn't really matter (nor does it matter if you're going
from printer to modem, etc). On the bsd side, add a line in (or turn on a
line in) /etc/ttys for a secure line to which ever serial port you hooked
up. There's a man page for the file, if you get confused. On the mac
side, use something like Zterm or Black Night, or another terminal
emulator. Tell it to direct-connect, without initializing the line or
anything else. If things look funky, make sure that you are using the
same terminal type on both ends (ansi to ansi, or vt220 to vt220, etc).
Reboot, and you should get a login prompt on your mac. If you don't, try
hitting return a couple of times on your mac.

Good luck!

Peter
