Hi,

Can you give us a copy of that screenful of junk?  It would help us
a lot in figuring out what is wrong.

If you use my suggestion of starting X with the command

  startx >& xlog.txt

then it will put all that nice mess into a text file. If you forward the
contents of the text file to the list,we might be able to locate the
problem.
