Actually, I noticed a similar problem with my IIcx. I bought it
used about 3 or 4 weeks ago from a local guy, and it came with 8MB of
RAM... 8 1MB SIMMs. Well, I swapped 4 of the 4MB SIMMs out of an old IIsi
I have that is sitting out in my garage, and swapped the 4's into the IIcx
and put its other 4 1's into the IIsi. I booted into MacOS and only 8 MB
showed up in the About This Macintosh window. Now, these SIMMs have worked
just fine for years in the IIsi and are working just fine now in the IIcx
after that initial weird boot. Might it just be some weird little nuance
in the SIMM slots? I noticed that they are different from the IIci and
IIsi ones.... at least mine are. Might it be a vendor defect, etc? Or,
maybe they were just loose for the first boot... They are working just
fine now, though.
