You're modem wouldn't lie to you, would it? :) If you set w0 or w1, like so:

CONNECT: 115200 #<== This is the DTE speed

The Performa 636 can go up to 115200, but it's pretty useless at that
speed. Unlike ZTerm, PPP is reliable, at least, but it retransmits so much,
it ends up being slower.
