Last time I checked, it works.

Not quite.  Before the sparc, Sun made 68k-based machines (i.e., the
ones that NetBSD/sun3[x] runs on ;-).  The COMPAT_SUNOS on the mac68k
is for running binaries for those systems on yours.  For NetBSD/sparc,
it means that you can run SunOS binaries for the sparc under NetBSD.

Note that in either case, you will need SunOS shared libraries, etc., for
dynamically-linked programs.
