I did this a few times, here's what I came up with:

--------------
#cat startx.err1

Screen 0 at 0xfe000040, 512 by 342, rowB 64, fbbase 0x7e01040.
Segmentation fault - core dumped

Fatal server error:
no screens found

#cat startx.err2

Screen 0 at 0xfe000040, 512 by 342, rowB 64, fbbase 0x7e01040.
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

#cat startx.err3

Segmentation fault - core dumped
--------------

Both X and xinit dumped, though not the second time. Filesystem's clean,
but something's hosed; I'll try a reinstall of the Xserver, then
xbase12...

Well, I wish it were that simple ;) This setting has no effect.
